WELCOME TO THE LANDSCAPE LIBRARY
A unique service for all professional Gardeners
The Landscape Library was founded by Alan Sargent in January 2020, as a means of digital training for all professionals, students and others seeking information and advice, written by professional authors, primarily covering those topics that were not easily discovered elsewhere, with an emphasis on ‘management issues’ surrounding operating and running a garden, practice or business in a professional manner. (Also known as Alan Sargent’s Landscape Library (UK) to differentiate between another site from the USA with the same title).
It was formulated as a browsing library, (although with an A – Z encyclopedia style feature), with separate sections for different disciplines for ease of reference, although many of the featured articles will be of interest to those engaged in others, separated only for ease of
location when browsing for a particular subject or topic.
Many articles will encompass different areas of our work involving the industry, not only one sector. Designers, Landscapers, Suppliers and Maintenance Contractors, as well as Students and invested parties will all have an interest in the life cycle of a garden, that may require essential information about every part of the process of developing and creating that garden.
The Landscape Library is designed to be an ever-growing source of inspiration and information, free from overt advertising and biased content. It was originally set up as a subscription-only site, with subscribers paying a quarterly fee.
This was changed at the end of 2025, to reflect the ever-growing demands of Google and AI, to become a FREE TO VIEW site, funded by Sponsoring Endorsers. From the beginning, The Library was recommended as an industry resource by a number of well-known industry
companies. Once the decision was made to become a Free Site, running costs were sought from Endorsers, to enable The Landscape Library to continue its work.
The majority of articles are written by Alan Sargent (all unless otherwise stated) with contributions from some of the top garden writers in the UK, including Neville Stein (voted Personality of The Year (Horticulture Week), Gareth Wilson (voted Landscaping Personality of The Year (Pro-landscaper), Industry Guru Sam Hassall (SPONS Author), Marie Shallcross (Award-winning columnist (Garden Media Guild), Karl Harrison (Decking Network), Neil Parslow (Pro-Landscaper) and others, all leaders in their respective fields.
Recommended for use as Tool-Box talks, formulating College training courses, and for general, all-round self-improvement, The Landscape Library is designed to be a browsing resource, and we suggest you start your own reference ‘Library’ of items of interest to yourself by means of a blank book, using the A – Z feature to record the titles of articles for future use.
